The Northwest Tarrant Chamber of Commerce will host Flavor Fest USA Invitational and Business Expo on Saturday, April 22. The event is open 12:00-6:00 p.m. Flavor Fest will showcase a live competition, free food sampling, cooking demonstrations, and giveaways.
The live competition, beginning at 1:00 p.m., will feature student chefs from area high school culinary arts programs. Interested students completed an application, which included creating a recipe from scratch. Six applicants were invited to participate in the competition. Lucas Seals, a senior, will be representing Lake Worth High School. He will be assisted by junior Fernanda Izaguirre. Mrs. Amber Welborn is the instructor for the Lake Worth High School culinary arts program.
The competition will consist of three rounds: appetizer, entree, and dessert. Student chefs will be presented with a "mystery basket" of ingredients at the start of each round. Each student competitor will use their knowledge of flavor profiles, cooking techniques, etc. to come up a dish that uses the provided ingredients. They will have time to write down their plan and sketch out what the final dish will look like. The student competitor and assistant will divide the workload between themselves based on each of their skill sets and proficiencies.
Chef Jeff Williams will be judging the student chefs at this year’s Flavor Fest. The winning student will receive a scholarship to the college of his/her choice. Flavor Fest is open to the public and all proceeds will go directly to the Northwest Tarrant Chamber of Commerce scholarship fund.
